A note from Ann Johnson about this image
This was one of the first paintings I made of Biz – over 20 years ago. She arrived in our garden at about six months old and we were immediately enchanted. Thus began my painting of cats – further inspired by the wonderful Tess who arrived a few years later, having lived rough behind the launderette. The ensuing feline images travelled far afield, raising funds along the way, for Compassion in World Farming at their annual fundraiser dinners, eventually pitching up on the walls of the Royal Academy Summer exhibition.
Two second-hand cats. They gave us so much and I hope we gave as much back to them. Chalk and cheese they were. Never really got on as they each would have preferred to be Only Cats.
